Dear Guests,

Spanning the lands of Asia and Europe, Eurasia is a highly strategic region both geographically and economically. Approximately three-fourths of the world’s known energy resources are located in this territory, which encompasses close to one hundred countries. A significant number of the world’s liveliest economies are in this region. Eurasia is of great importance historically, too—many firsts that shaped the world’s civilizations and important historical developments sprouted forth from these lands. For millennia, the Silk Road was the main axis of trade. Fundamental scientific developments first emerged in Eurasia. With this intellectual background, the territory played a major role for thousands of years in shaping the world. In recent years, with the world’s economic and cultural center of gravity shifting eastward, Eurasia has been regaining its prominence as the future of the world is being built around the region.

Istanbul, at the center of Eurasia whether in historical or in geographic terms, is the region’s locus and its most significant location. In recent years, it has become one of the world’s most prized cynosures economically, culturally, and touristically. Furthermore, the city enjoys the particular advantage of being a natural transit hub for air travel.

As Turkish Airlines, we monitor these changes with rapt attention and reinforce our positioning accordingly. With our recent investments in the region, we have been connecting Eurasia to Africa, the Middle East, East Asia, and the Americas. Turkish Airlines, which flies to the most countries in the world, is rising up as the region’s most powerful airline. Our investments to strengthen this position and to offer more options to you, our valued passengers, are ongoing. We recently announced our order of 117 narrow-body airliners; these will join our fleet by 2020, together with our previously ordered wide-body airliners. Our flight network, too, will be expanding with the addition of new cities. This month, we are launching flights to Houston (USA) and Aqaba (Jordan). By 2020, we will be an airline with a fleet of 375 airliners that carry ninety million passengers annually to generate $19 billion in revenue.

Dear Guests,
Another very important development for Istanbul is its candidacy for the 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. We believe that Istanbul, as one of the world’s most important cities, deserves the honor of hosting this event. As Turkish Airlines, the airline that travels to the most destinations in the world, we will work as best as we can to enable easy, delightful transport to the Olympics from all over the world via our investments and the destinations we will add to our flight network by 2020.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish a happy National Sovereignty and Children’s Day on April 23 and to thank you once again for choosing Turkish Airlines for your travels.

Sincerely yours,
Temel Kotil, Ph.D.
President and CEO
